Sisal and recycled plastic with long leather handle. All our mono baskets are handmade and very eco-friendly, achieved by using locally sourced natural fibres, paper, wood and either recycled or upcycled plastics. We value sustainability by using natural and recycled materials that can be sourced locally. Sisal plants grow in the dry soil of Kenya where no chemical fertilizers are used in production. Although very similar otherwise, sisal is more durable than jute and can be formed into the shape you like. Sisal is also anti-static.
These Kupa hanging baskets with long leather handle are made of sisal and recycled plastic and are extremely durable and can even take water making them very versatile to use and easy to clean. Therefore they can also be used outdoors. The plastic used to make these durable high quality baskets is recycled or up-cycled residual waste sourced from local factories.
Locally sourced leather is used for the handles. Variation in the colour of the leather handles is natural as it depends on where and how the cow has been bred. The leather handles have been vegetable tanned, which is a process using organic material and natural tannins derived from the barks, leaves and branches of trees and plants. The leather is cut and stitched to the baskets by skilled leather artisan partners using traditional techniques.
